Alphie the Alphabet Caterpillar

We would like to introduce you to a special ongoing project we will be working on throughout the year – Alphie! Alphie is a caterpillar that will grow on our classroom wall that each child will add onto as the year progresses.

When it is your child’s turn, he/she will bring home a Chinet paper plate with a letter assignment. Please work together with your child to decorate the plate with any objects, pictures, etc. that begin with that letter (see example below). Please display the letter on the plate (both upper and lowercase as in the picture above), large enough so it will be visible while it hangs on our classroom wall. Your child will bring the plate back in and add it to our caterpillar. The kids love to see Alphie grow all year and be a part of building him! Each child will participate at least 2 times.

Example:

Letter B plate – maybe paint or color the plate blue, glue on pictures of baseballs, balloons, bumblebees, bears, etc. You could also glue on objects such as buttons, a deflated balloon, beans, etc. This isn’t meant to be elaborate or labor intensive; just a fun way to incorporate learning at home with learning at school. The kids love to show off their creations and add them to Alphie!

Thank you in advance for your participation and if you have any questions, please feel free to ask.
